In 1992 the brilliant page was written into the history of Azeri sport and Olympic Movement. National Olympic Committee of the country was established. At present, 10 years have passed by since that. On December 12, 2001 President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev enacted Decree on celebration of the tenth anniversary since establishment of the National Olympic Committee at the governmental level. Undoubtedly, such an anniversary tradition will become a new page of Olympic history. It is said in the decree enacted by the government in connection with celebration of the tenth anniversary: "National Olympic Committee operates effectively to extend Olympic Movement in Azerbaijan, to strengthen provision of its material-technical basis, improve training level of our sportsmen. It should be noted that National Olympic Committee was managed to establish close cooperation ties with various governmental and social structures of the republic as well as Olympic and sport organizations to realize such important duties.

Such an activity of the National Olympic Committee gives a hope that Azeri nation will be expecting new victories from our sportsmen in Athens Olympiad in 2004, three-color flag of Azerbaijan, state anthem will be sounded louder over the ancient Greek land". Such high appraisal given to the activity of National Olympic Committee's activity gives new inspiration, new stimuli in the coming 10-year activity along with laying new duties in front of Olympic Committee, faith in gaining new achievements. So, such future successes are based on the results made, analysis of the works carried out, experience of the past.

Due to this reason, it would be interesting for our readers to look through that period, i.e. in the last ten years, analyze the pages of history of our Olympic Movement.

Reestablishment of Azerbaijan's independence gave real legal basis for integration of this sovereign country into international world, expressing the attitude towards the global events taking place on our planet, representation in the international organization, participation in great measures conducted by those organizations. Azerbaijan has gained opportunity to be in all spheres, as well as international arena. Our sportsmen started participating under the flag of Azerbaijan in the world and European championships, international competitions. The greatest, attracting attention of the whole world is undoubtedly Olympic Games. Representation of Azerbaijan in these games was one of the most important issues. Indeed, Azeri sportsmen were participating in the Olympic Games already in 1952. However, they were representing in the Olympic Games not Azerbaijan but other state - Soviet Union, they were performing under the flag of the USSR. Our sportsmen were winning Olympic medals in the Olympic Games, were demonstrating high results. It can be said that such achievements of Azeri sport were known only to the sportive society of the republic.
