New structure elected in 1997 established new ties with the governmental sport structures of the republic first of all, condition, activity of the national sportive federations was studied. Activity of the federations had been revived. In the regular session of the Executive Committee of the NOC held in 1997 conception of preparation to Sydney Olympiad was approved, the situation connected with the participation in Winter Olympic Games was discussed, commissions of the committee were established, decree on establishment of the National Olympic Academy was taken. Wide steps were taken in the direction of establishment of the ties with the International and continental Olympic committees, as well as National Olympic Committee Associations and expansion of the cooperation.

National Olympic Committee studied social condition of the sportsmen. Regulations on the fellowships of the National Olympic Committee for the perspective sportsmen and their coaches were instituted. According to the regulations, since January 1998 perspective sportsmen and their coaches started receiving monthly fellowships of the NOC. Veterans defending the honor of Azeri sport, famous sportsmen of the republic were also taken into consideration. National Olympic Committee instituted special fellowships for the veterans as well. Since the first months of 1998 it has started provision of participation of our sportsmen in the competitions, realization the definite works in the direction of conduction of the training collections.

With the purpose of popularization of the sport in Azerbaijan, attraction of the children and youth to the sport National Olympic Committee took a decision on organization of the Republic Games among Youth together with the Youth and Sport Ministry, Ministry of education and Trade Union Confederation. In 1998 first Republican Games of the Youth were conducted. Already, these Games have become periodic, i.e. are organized one in two years. In 2002 on the eve of tenth anniversary of the National Olympic Committee the competitions of the final stage of the third Republican Games of the Youth had come to the end.

The care and attention of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee towards the young sportsmen isn't limited with only Republican Games. In the last three years participation of young sportsmen in various international-scaled events connected with the NOC Olympic movement has been provided. Azeri young sportsmen were participating in the Worldwide Games among the Youth in Moscow in 1998, European Youth Olympic festivals in Esbyorg city of Denmark in 1999 and Mursia city of Spain in 2001. In the competitions held in the frameworks of these events, our sportsmen demonstrated successful results in various kinds of sport, won medals. In 2002 young sportsmen were participating in the Games conducted in Moscow organized by the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic countries.

In 1997-2000 Committee's administration was participating actively in the sessions, other measures and meetings, seminars of International Olympic Committee, National Olympic Committees Association, European Olympic Committee.

In the course of recent visits of president of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev with president of the International Olympic Committee Chuan Antonio Samaranch, current president of the International Olympic Committee Jacque Rogge special attention was paid to the issued of condition of the sport and development perspectives, expansion of the international ties, strengthening of the cooperation.

In XXVII Supreme Assembly of the European Olympic Committee vice-president of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade was selected as a member into the "Preparation to the Olympic Games" of the EOC, secretary general Agajan Abiyev - member of the "Technical cooperation" commission. They were participating in the meetings held by the corresponding commissions. There is active work in the direction of Just games movement in Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee. Vice-president of the NOC, chairman of the "Just Games" commission Khazar Isayev has permanently been participating in the events held by European Just Games organization.
