On 26 March 2001 opening ceremony of new administrative building of the National Olympic Committee took place. Head of the country was participating in this ceremony. Head of the country spoke in front of NOC members and the guests gathered in the ceremony. Having noted that the creative work of the National Olympic Committee was very estimable, president appealed to join to this initiative, recommended to carry out strict work in preparation to Athens Olympic Games: "According to the information given to me by Ilham Aliyev, these works are being carried out. However, he is not one. Azeri participants must be represented in all other international competitions. Perhaps, they may win one game, they may lose another. This shouldn't worry us. The more Azeri youth, Azeri reps take participation in international competitions, the more experience they gain. They will be studying all the specifications of the competitions. They will be so much inspired that they will decide to take part in such competitions more and more, they will try to achieve new successes, finally, they will manage to reach the desired peak. This is our duty in front of the National Olympic Committee".

Azeri President was drawing to the front plan such factors as massive sport distribution, physical culture popularization: "We must do the sport, physical culture massive. We must attract the majority of youth to this; this is a basis for all-sided future of Azeri citizen. Of course, we must establish required opportunities to achieve it, we must create the required conditions". Head of the country has always emphasized in his speeches the importance of rendering all-sided assistance in the development of sport: "Using an opportunity, I am inviting all organizations - both governmental and non-governmental organization, business world, everybody to this work, which is of great importance for the future of Azerbaijan. I suppose, my words will be heard and we will see the results of it in coming years. We have already seen the results. The samples are that National Olympic Committee has conducted number of various organizational measures, propaganda works for the development of Olympic movement in the last few years, raised Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee to the required level. However, this is a part of the work. At the same time, National Olympic Committee has been using its local funds for a short period of time and has been engaged in creation of the material-technical base of the physical culture. This is very pleasant".

National Olympic Committee takes the instructions and recommendations of Azeri President as a basis of its work. In late 2001 in Baku's Mashtaga settlement another sportive center was put into exploitation. New works are being carried out in the field of conduction of the international competitions in the country. For the first time, Azeri volleyball players gained success in the scale of Europe in the team games. Top-team cup was possessed that was being played between European women volleyball teams. Final stage for this fight was held in Baku. President of the Republic received the members of volleyball team that won the cup, wished them new successes in the development and prosperity of Azeri sport.

In May 2002 45th European free-style adults wrestling championship was held. President sent a congratulation letter to the participants of European championship, received representative delegation, took part in the opening ceremony, had become one of viewers of the championship, had followed performances of our wrestlers. Our sportsmen noted coming of the president of our republic with the victories.

Having put development of the material-technical base of sport in the country as its goal, National Olympic Committee completed construction of universal sportive complex of two gyms in May 2002 in spite of all difficulties in the city of Nakhichevan, which is the brightest place of our country but as a result of the aggression of Armenia towards Azerbaijan, the city is living in blockade. On June 15, 2002 solemn opening ceremony of new sportive complex was held in Nakhichevan city. The opening ceremony was held on the same day with the "Renascence" day under the state flag of the country. Head of the country Heydar Aliyev visited Nakhichevan to take part in the opening ceremony. Making an interesting speech in the ceremony, head of the country said about the reason of his arrival in the Autonomous Republic: "One of the reasons that I am here with you on this festival day is that large Olympic Sport Complex has been constructed in Nakhichevan meeting all modern requirements and I came to its opening ceremony and am celebrating this eminent day together with you".

Head of the country esteemed the construction and putting into exploitation of the Olympic sportive complex in Nakhichevan living in the blockade conditions as a considerable event. "It is very significant event. I congratulate you sincerely on the occasion of this event. I think that you realize the importance of this Olympic Complex for Nakhichevan and you will be able to realize it in future, too".

Highly esteeming the works carried out by the National Olympic Committee in the last five years, President Heydar Aliyev said in his speech "so, large material-technical base of Azeri sport, physical culture is being created now in Azerbaijan. We want to create such a base. However, we do not have capabilities to grant the funds from the budget for the National Olympic Committee. They use their own funds. You see how devoted they are to their jobs, how they love this job. They are doing it leaving the rest of works".

Two months since the opening of new sports complex in Nakhichevan new sportive building in Ganja was put into exploitation. Solemn ceremony was held with participation of the head of the country again.

Azeri President continues his attention and care about the sport, Olympic movement. The mottos sounded in his speeches such as "Everything created by the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan isn't for only one person, it is for the nation, for the people, for the development of sport in the country!", "Taking care about the sport, physical culture, we implement our duty in front of the nation, people, Motherland", "We were carrying out the creative works, we are carrying out and we will be carrying out them", "Azeri sport will have increased, will have been even more developed by the next Olympic Games" give basis to look with belief into the future. Nothing other may be. Because Azeri President Heydar Aliyev is the greatest adherent and propagandist of the sport, Olympic Movement in the republic.
