On 24-26 May 2000 XII General Assembly of the National Olympic Committees Association was held in Brazilian capital of Rio de Janeiro. In the Assembly vice-president of the committee Chingiz Huseynzade was representing our republic. In the assembly held in Rio de Janeiro reports of the continental Olympic committees, speeches of secretaries general of the NOCA, reports of NOCA commissions, cooperation future between Olympic Union administration and National Olympic Committees, V Olympic Program for the next period and other issues were discussed. The issues discussed during the session were of great importance from the point of view of establishment future activity of our National Olympic Committee, development of the ties with international Olympic organizations, joining various international programs.

In 2000 the works carried out by the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with development of the Olympic Movement had expanded, reached new quality level. The main direction of these works were aimed to moving forward of the ties with international Olympic organization. In the period of Sydney Games president of the Committee Ilham Aliyev held business meetings with the heads of international Olympic organizations, international federation, Olympic Committees of various countries. The event of "Azerbaijan day" held in Sydney also played the special role in the development of international ties as well.
