On November 16-20, 2000 XXIX General Assembly of European Olympic Committee was held in the capital of Poland Warszawa. The representative delegation consisting of the president of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, first vice-president Abulfaz Garayev, vice-president Chingiz Huseynzade and secretary general Agajan Abiyev was participating in the assembly.

In the session the reports of the president of European Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge, secretary general Mario Peskante were listened. Doctor Jacques Rogge spoke about the works carried out in that period, esteemed Sydney Olympiad as one of the most significant sportive events in the history of sport. It is very pleasant that in his speech president of European Olympic Committee stated Azerbaijan among the names of the countries actively participating in the Olympic Committee. He said that the successes achieved by Azeri sportsmen in Sydney Olympiad were results of great care of the government about the sport and Olympic Movement in the republic. Doctor Jacques Rogge emphasized the works carried out by Azeri National Olympic Committee in the direction of construction and putting into exploitation new Olympic complexes, attention paid to the solution of social problems of the sportsmen, increase of mass character of the sport in Azerbaijan.

Number of important decrees was approved in the General Assembly. It is very pleasant that assembly's participants voted unambiguously on conduction of the first session of the Executive Committee of European Olympic Committee on 6 April 2001 in the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku city.

During the General Assembly president of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held meetings with International Olympic Committee president Chuan Antonio Samaranch, European Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge, presidents of number of National Olympic Committees. In the meetings the conversation on the condition of the sport and Olympic Movement in Azerbaijan, perspectives of the works carried out in this direction were discussed. In the meetings the progress observed in the field of Olympic Movement in Azerbaijan in the international scale, increasing of the attention and assistance of international Olympic and sportive organizations were specified. The news on organization of the first session of the Executive Committee of European Olympic Committee in April 2001 in Baku had proved this fact once again.

In Warszawa European Olympic Committee commissions and working groups also held their meetings. The member, vice-president of the NOC Chingiz Huseynzade was participating in the work of the Olympic Games preparation commission, member of the commission, secretary general of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Agajan Abiyev was participating in the work of Technical cooperation commission. The commission held discussions on the solution of technical issues concerned with the Olympic Games, determined future activity directions. It was decided here to hold the next session of the Technical Commission in Baku.
