On 21 February 2001 in Baku in Hyatt Regency hotel the session of the technical commission of the European Olympic Committee was held. "Technical commission" is one of 5 commissions of the EOC. In the session of the commission 9 out of 12 members - Gunilla Lindberg (chairman, Sweden), Marcel Sturkenbaum (Netherlands), Agajan Abiyev (Azerbaijan), Andrei Kislov (Russia), Dimitris Diazesopolos (Sweden), Isidre Baro Kabanes (Andorra), Agust Askeierson (Island), Khenze Heine (Germany) and Raymond Hastert (Luxemburg, secretary) were participating.

At the beginning of the session first vice-president of the National Olympic Committee Abulfaz Garayev greeted the members of the commission, evaluated the gathering of the commission in Baku as a great event in the history of Azeri Olympic Movement. Then, member of the commission from Azerbaijan Agajan Abiyev informed the guests briefly about the works carried out in our country by Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee.

Then, discussion of the issues being in the agenda of the commission has started. The totals of the works of the commission for 2000 and the works for 2001 had become an object of the discussions. Commission confirmed activity plan for 2001.

Ways of fight against the dope, assistance to the talented sportsmen, ways of wide propaganda of Olympic training among the community were discussed.

The next day president of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev received the members of the commission, gave detailed information on the ties with the European Olympic Committee. In the meeting the results of the session of commission were discussed, views on conduction of the session of the Executive Committee of the EOC in Baku were exchanged.

On 5 April 2001 members of European Olympic Committee's Executive Committee gathered in Baku. On 6 April members of Executive Committee came to the administration building of the National Olympic Committee. The guests were met by NOC President Ilham Aliyev. After the short talk Ilham Aliyev introduced to the guests administrative building of the National Olympic Committee, working conditions over there. Then, the meeting between the members of Executive Committee of the EOC and NOC administration was held. Ilham Aliyev informed about the NOC activity, the works carried out in the last period during the meeting. After that, EOC Executive Committee had started its work. President of European Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge, vice-president Patrick Hickey, secretary general Mario Peskante, members of executive committee Togay Bayatli, Alain Geles, Hayns Chengwritz, Gunilla Lindberg, Alexandra Kozlovski, Arturas Poviliunas, Arne Mirvold, Walter Troger were participating in the session. In the session the issues of preparation to Salt Lake City Games, Athens Olympiad, establishment of the EOC Athletes commission were discussed. EOC session finished by the evening. After the session EOC members were received by the chairman of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Murtuz Alasgarov. The next day members of EOC Executive committee were participating in the 70th anniversary of Azerbaijan Physical Culture and Sports Academy. EOC vice-president Patrick Hickey spoke in the anniversary celebrations.

After administrative building of the National Olympic Committee in Baku was put into exploitation, number of meetings with the heads of international sports federations was held here. In the meetings the issues of development of some kinds of sport in Azerbaijan, its development issues, organization of international competitions over various kinds of sport, as well as issues of expansion of the cooperation and ties had become topic of discussions.

On 5 May 2001 in the administration building of the NOC president of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev received principal assistant of the president of International Bodybuilding Federation Rafael Santokh (Spain), executive director of International Bodybuilding Federation Pamella Kagon (Canada), director of Russian "Vasil" firm engaged in manufacturing sportive equipment Oleg Dagetyar and editor of NTV+ TV channel Igor Petrukhin.

On May 26 of the same year Ilham Aliyev received Judo Federation President Marius Wizer. In the reception NOC president spoke about development history of Azeri judo, successes it gained in the last few years. He said that judo was developing at high speed in the republic. Speaking about activity of the National Olympic Committee, Ilham Aliyev informed the guest on the organization of international competitions in Azerbaijan, drew attention to the conduction of the judo international competitions, as well as European championship. Marius Wizer thanked for the sincere reception, noted that there were all conditions to hold international competitions in Azerbaijan.

30th General Assembly of the EOC was held in Monaco on 30 November - 1 December. In the meeting president of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev, vice-president Abulfaz Garayev, secretary general Agajan Abiyev were participating. During the assembly the former secretary general Mario Peskante was elected to the post of president of the European Olympic Committee instead of Jacques Rogge, who had become a president of International Olympic Committee. In Monaco president of the NOC met with the president of International Olympic Committee, exchanged the views on the condition of the Olympic Movement in the Republic, activity of the NOC, cooperation issued with the IOC.

On March 2, 2002 president of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev received secretary general of the World Taekwondo Federation Kim Cheul. In the reception the parties were speaking about the condition and development perspectives of taekwondo in Azerbaijan.

On 21 March 2002 NOC President Ilham Aliyev, NOC first vice-president Abulfaz Garayev was participating in the session of Organizational Committee of the Junior Games of Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic countries. The issues of organization of the Junior Games and participating in them were discussed in the session. Having noted that Azeri NOC had always supported conduction of such games, Ilham Aliyev said that in Moscow Games Azeri sportsmen would be represented with large delegation.

On 19 April 2002 president of the NOC Ilham Aliyev received International Field Hockey Federation president Mrs. Els Van Breda Wriersmann headed representative delegation and retold them about the period when field hockey in Azerbaijan was highly developed, NOC had increased its attention to the assistance in development of the team kinds of sport. NOC President noted that there was opportunities and potential for the development of the field hockey in the country. The project of construction of the field hockey stadium in Baku and the views on its construction were exchanged during the meeting.

On 25 April vice-president of the NOC Chingiz Huseinzade was participating in the seminar of Chef-demission in Cyprus. In the meeting the issues concerned with the preparation to Athens Games, reception of Olympic representative delegations.
