On 22-25 May 2002 13th General Assembly of the National Olympic Committees Association was held in Malaysian capital of Kuala-Lumpur. President of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev and vice-president Chingiz Huseynzade were participating in the work of the assembly.

Meeting of the National Olympic Committees Association in the city of Kuala-Lumpur was report-election general assembly of the given organization. In the assembly reports of the vice-presidents of the National Olympic Committees over the continents and information on the activity of the association committees were listened, elections of the president of the association were conducted. Mario Vaskes Rana was elected to the post of president of the National Olympic Committees Association.

Being in Kuala-Lumpur, president of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held number of business meetings. In the meeting with president of National Olympic Committees Association Mario Vaskes Rana he spoke about activity of Azerbaijan Olympic Committee, successes gained in the field of expansion of the Olympic Movement in the republic, future activity of the committee, the views on expansion of the ties and cooperation between Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee with it were exchanged.

The meeting between the President of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev and President of European Olympic Committee Mario Peskante was also held in the sincere atmosphere. In the meeting the issues of activity of the NOC inside the country and events of the continental organization were discussed. EOC president Mario Peskante remembered his trip to Azerbaijan, expressed his satisfaction with the new works carried out by Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee, greeted high speeds of development of Olympic Movement and Sport in Azerbaijan.

President of National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev's next meeting was with the vice-president of International Olympic Committee Vitaliy Smirnov. In the meeting held in sincere and business atmosphere the conversation was going around number of issues related to International Olympic Movement, the ways of expansion of the ties and cooperation between National Olympic Committee and International Olympic Committee.

In Malaysia Ilham Aliyev met with the director of relations with National Olympic Committees and Olympic Union of International Olympic Committee Pere Miro, secretary general of European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey and presidents of number of National Olympic Committees, president of international heavy athletics Federation Tomas Ayan.

It should be noted that president of international heavy athletics Federation Tomas Ayan paid an official visit to Azerbaijan in 2002 for the second time.

On 23 May in the session of XIII General Assembly of the National Olympic Committees Association president of National Olympic Committees Association Mario Vaskes Rana was speaking about activity of the National Olympic Committees concerned with the development of Olympic Movement and mentioned the works carried out by Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee, successes gained by this organization. He said that National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan was conferred with special award and it was presented to NOC president Ilham Aliyev. It was written on the award: "National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan is awarded due to distribution of the Olympic ideals in the world and its services in the development of sport".

On 23 May president of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev met with the president of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge in his headquarters. IOC president Jacques Rogge said that he was familiar with the development of sport in Azerbaijan, expansion of the Olympic movement, achievements gained in the field of construction of new sportive complexes in our country, construction of the sportive structures, organization and conduction of number of international competitions at high level in Azerbaijan. He said that was very glad that Olympic movement was developing so intensively in Azerbaijan.

As a whole, NOC administration, members of Executive Committee and other members of the NOC have been paid working visits to the foreign countries more than 100 times in the last 5 years. Each of the mentioned visits was of working or other purpose and had positive impact on the international ties of the committee.

President of Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev has played considerable role in conduction of the private meetings with the presidents of the National Olympic Committees, heads of International Olympic Committee and European Olympic Committee and the negotiations conducted with them, as well as increase of the authority of Azerbaijan Republic and its National Olympic Committee in the international world.

Nowadays, we can say that the relations of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee are at high level and these ties are developing in the increasing line.

Undoubtedly, all the said is a result of the purposeful efforts of the National Olympic Committee.
