Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee carries out works in succession in the country towards the development of different sport king as volleyball. Considerable works were done for the last years in the direction to return the former fame of the republican women volleyball. As the result of efforts made by the National Olympic Committee, Volleyball Federation and mainly talented coach Faig Garayev it become possible to found strong volleyball team in Azerbaijan. In 2001 "AzerRail" team joined the competitions for the European Top Teams Cup. "AzerRail" having performed with success in the first stage occupied the leading position and gained the right to complete in the final stage. That time Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation addressed the European Volleyball Confederation with request to hold the final games in Baku and the Confederation accepted the request.

"AzerRail" having defeated "Dinamo-Yenestra" Ukraine team in the final in two games with a score 3:0 reached the final.

On march 9 the final competitions of the European Top Teams Cup started in Baku.

In the first semi final competitions "Yedinstvo" team of Yugoslav and "Telecom" team of Austria met. "Yedinstvo" passed the first stage and received the right to the final.

Team of Azerbaijan "AzerRail" and "Bank Pochtovi" of Poland came out on the field after the first semi final match immediately. "AzerRail" won the game with a score 3:0.

The following day in the fight for the third place Polish volleyball players having won victory took bronze medal of Top Teams Cup.

After this game final match for which spectators so waited for began. Azerbaijan volleyball players did not give any chance to their opponents. The game ended with a thunder speed. Our team won victory with a score 3:0.

Yan Khronic, Vice-president of the European Volleball Confederation presented to Mr. Ilham Aliyev CEV-special award - Honor order for his merits in the gaining of accomplishments and promotion of sport and for the organization of the European Top Teams up on high level. Then he presented Top Teams Cup to Alla Hasanova, the captain of the "AzerRail" team. "AzerRail" added a new great prize to other prizes of Azerbaijan volleyball.
