National Olympic Committee, the main goal of which is development of the material-technical basis of sport in the country, completed construction of the sports complex consisting of two gyms in spite of all difficulties in one of the healing zones of our country being in the blockade as a result of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan - Nakhcihevan in May 2002. Solemn opening ceremony of the sports complex took place in the city of Nakhichevan on July 15, 2002. Coincidence of the opening ceremony date and official state holiday - Renaissance Day is not an evident. Head of the country Heydar Aliyev arrived in Nakhichevan to take part in the opening ceremony. Head of the state spoke long and explained the goal of his visit to the Autonomous Republic as follows: "Today, on this holiday, one of the reasons of my presence here is construction of large Olympic Sports Complex meeting all the world standards and I arrived here to the ceremony of its opening to celebrate this day together with you". Head of the state esteemed the construction and putting Olympic sports complex into exploitation in Nakhichevan living in the blockade as a very important event. "It is very considerable event. I am congratulating you sincerely on the occasion of this event. I think that you will be able to esteem the meaning and importance of this Olympic complex for Nakhichevan in a few months, in a while".

Highly appreciating the work National Olympic Committee had carried out in the last five years, President Heydar Aliyev noticed in his speech that "large material-technical base of sport, physical culture is being established in Azerbaijan at present. We want to establish this base. However, we do not have enough means to grant to the National Olympic Committee. They are using their own means. So, just imagine how devoted they are to their work. They are realizing all the works not paying any attention at the other factors".

Care and attention to the sport, Olympic Movement by President can be felt constantly. Stating in his speeches such expressions as "All the constructing and establishing by the National Olympic Committee is provided not for one person but for the nation, people and sports development!", "It is our duty in front of the Motherland to take care and pay attention to the sports, physical culture", "We were carrying out, we are carrying out and we will be carrying out construction works even more actively in future", "Sports in Azerbaijan will be more developed and strengthened until the next Olympic Games" give us the ground to look positively into the future of sports in Azerbaijan. It can't be in other way. Because, Azeri President Heydar Aliyev is the most admirer and propagandist of the sport and Olympic Movement in Azerbaijan.
