Foundation of the Olympic Sports Complex in the city of Shahki was laid last year. Builders had completed construction of the given complex for very short period, less than a year. The complex built in Shahki differed from lots of other sports complexes National Olympic Committee put into exploitation. First of all, it should be specified that in fact, this complex is an Olympic Sports Center. All conditions for habitation of over 60 athletes in 16 cottages around the Center have been established. The Complex built in the mountain zone of the republic will turn into the center of educational and training meetings. This Complex consists of three gyms. One of the gyms may seat 700, another - up to 300. The third gym is a swimming pool. Trainer gym of the complex is equipped with the most up-to-date trainers. Tennis courts, volleyball and basketball grounds are allocated in the yard of the Center.

Solemn opening ceremony of the sports complex of Shaki took place on November 9. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev arrived in Shaki to take part in the opening ceremony. Head of the state stayed in one of the cottages of the Olympic Complex.

Thousands of city and region population, reps of the neighbor regions gathered in the street leading to the Olympic Sports Complex, as well the Olympic square decorated as in festival. The audience met the President of the Republic with loud applauses. Ceremony participants also greeted sincerely President of the National Olympic Committee. The ribbon symbolizing opening of the Olympic Sports Complex was cut. Head of the country and guests arrived for the ceremony walked the complex gyms, watched training of the athletes. After this, big concert on the occasion of opening of the complex took place. So, another one grand sports construction built by the National Olympic Committee has been put into exploitation.
