Azerbaijani artists took part in international caricature contest devoted to Turkish Olympic Committee Fair Games Movement in 2001. Nine works of three artists were sent to contest. Caricature of Azeri artist Soltan Imamaliyev took the first place in contest. Caricature of Soltan Imamaliyev and information on the contest was published in magazine "Olympia" of Turkish Olympic Committee and newspaper "Fair Play", organ of Europe Fair Games Movement.
In April of 2002 culture commission of National Olympic Committee, newspaper "Olympic world", organ of the committee, announced along with Azerbaijan Artists Union contest of sport-theme works among National caricaturist artists. 13 artists submitted 36 caricatures to contest.
On June 7 opening ceremony was held for exhibition of works presented to the contest. In the ceremony were present chair of Azerbaijan Artists Union Ferhad Khalilov, vice-president of National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade, deputy minister of culture of republic Sevda Mammadaliyeva, chair of culture commission of NOC Zarifa Salahova and other officials. In the opening day of exhibition jury announced winners of contest and winners were awarded. In the contest of caricature Hafiz Nesiroglu was granted first award, Fidan Aliyeva second and Bulud Gasimov third one. Natig Eyyubov and Gunay Gasimkhanli were granted stimulating awards of contest. Sport-theme caricature contest lasted for more than a week and caused big interest of visitors.
Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee continues its functioning today in sport and art spheres. Olympic Committee, on its 10th anniversary, holds contest of works of art on the theme Azerbaijan Olympic Games and sport. Exhibition of works submitted to the contest is a big contribution both to art and sport fans.
In frame of jubilee other cultural actions will be carried out as well.
On the eve of Athens games National Olympic Committee considers to implement a number of actions in field of Olympia, sport and art.
